Performing Arts

Performing Arts

Boroondara Park has a thriving and exciting Performing Arts program, which gives the students ample opportunity to become involved in the many activities that we offer. We currently have 2 well-equipped rooms. Our music room has an interactive whiteboard, as well as an array of tuned and untuned percussion instruments which are often used by our students. Our Dance/Drama room is an open space where the students can participate in the many drama and movement activities offered to them.

All students from Prep to Grade 4 have a 50-minute session of Performing Arts each week. The Grade 5 & 6 children have a 50-minute session of Music as well as another 50-minute session for Dance/Drama.

Extra curricula activities offered at Boroondara Park

  • Junior choir Grades Prep - 3
  • Senior choir Grades 4 - 6
  • Girls’ Vocal Group an auditioned group for girls in Grades 5 & 6
  • Boys’ Vocal Group Grades 5 & 6
  • Orchestra Grades 3, 4, 5 & 6
  • Recorder ensembles for beginners and advanced

All of our extra curricula groups perform at various events, including the Boroondara and Waverley eisteddfods, a concert run by Oxfam each year, our Grandparent's concert and our annual Christmas carols night

Instrumental music

We also offer guitar, drum and flute lessons during school hours by professional studio teacher. These lessons are available to all students at the school.

Level 3 children are taught the recorder during their class time, working through the 'Cool Cats' recorder program.

Children who learn an instrument in or out of school time are invited to be a guest performer during our whole-school assemblies. This is a fabulous opportunity for students to gain valuable performance experience in front of a supportive and friendly audience.

Other activities

Boroondara Park runs various concerts and performances each year, including a School Production (grades 3 - 6) and a general music concert, alternating each year. We also have a junior concert (grades Prep - 2) every year. Major concerts are performed at an outside theatre venue.

OurPerforming Arts program is highly valued and we pride ourselves on the diversity of the arts experiences offered to our students and the high standard of performance our children achieve.
