Communication
Communication
The school recognises that it must work with the parents jointly to achieve educational success for each child. The school welcomes parent contact with the principal and teachers. However, to limit disruption to the classroom, if you wish to discuss any aspect of your child’s progress at length we do ask that you make an appointment to see your child’s teacher outside teaching hours. A high level of communication is also maintained in spontaneous contacts with parents dropping off and picking up children, at canteen and during other parent related activities.
Communication FAQs
A Frequently Asked Questions document has been developed by our Communication Committee that endeavours to assist parents in answering a number of important questions. The document is also available in a number of languages.
School Foyer
Inside the school entrance there are notice boards advising of School Council, Parents and Friends' Association, and other school community activities. The school motto, major sporting trophies and examples of the school uniform are also displayed in the school foyer. This area is frequently used to display examples of students’ work.
Class Representatives
Each grade has parent representatives who support the children, assist class teachers and provide an important communication link with other parents within the particular grade.
Reporting
The school recognises the importance of a close liaison and friendly communication with parents. Formal parent/teacher interviews are held early in the year. However, parents are welcome to seek an appointment at any time with the Principal and/or staff to discuss any aspect of their children’s schooling.
Comprehensive, detailed written reports are issued to parents twice a year, at the end of terms 2 and 4, providing assessments about the student’s skills and attitudes in each key domain under the Victorian Essential Learning Standards. The opportunity to discuss any issues arising from the report is made available.
Information Evenings
School information evenings are held regularly to inform parents of current issues within the school. Click on the following links to access the presentations for 2008 (Please be patient as these are large files)
Diaries and Communication Folder
Children in Grades 3 - 6 receive a school diary each year to record their current activities. It also forms an important communication link with parents, particularly regarding their child’s homework requirements. Parents are asked to check these diaries frequently and sign them at intervals requested by their child's teacher.
Children in Years Prep - 2 have a Communication Folder that goes home each day. It may include ongoing work, completed work, level and interest reading and notices to and from school.
