Kindergarten to Foundation - Transition

Kindergarten to Foundation Enrolment and Transition

We care about your child’s education and view the enrolment and transition process as a partnership between you the parent, your child, the Kindergarten and us, Boroondara Park Primary School. Our aim is to make your child’s transition from Kindergarten to Primary School as smooth and enjoyable as possible, and to ensure parents and carers are well informed throughout the transition process. Attending one of our weekly school tours is a great way to see and get to know and our school and what we value. A Foundation Information Night and Open Days are held in May, and a Foundation Transition Evening is held in November for parents of enrolled students. To support pre-school children make a smooth transition to Primary School, we run Story Time sessions at the beginning of Term 3 and Term 4, and three Orientation Sessions in Term 4 for enrolled students.

Virtual School Tour for future Foundation Children:

We have created a school tour to be viewed by our future Foundation students. During this

tour, children will meet one of our current Foundation teachers and see and hear about

some of the special places where they will learn and play at Boroondara Park Primary School

next year. Click here to view the tour.

What We Love About School Book:

Boroondara Park Primary School Foundation students created a story for pre-school

children. Students had to draw a picture of something they love doing at school. Using an

iPad, they took a photo of their drawing, added a voice recording and typed in their name.

Click here to view the book. Discuss with your child what they are looking forward to doing at school next year.

Teacher Visits

The Foundation teachers at Boroondara Park P.S. frequently visit our local Kindergartens and have developed excellent professional relationships with local Kindergarten teachers. This relationship enables our Foundation teachers to get to know many of our future students. It also enables us to collaborate with the Kindergarten teachers to ensure we develop programs that promote the most successful transition for every child.

Story Time

Story Time is an intrinsic part of our transition program that provides an opportunity for Kindergarten children to visit our school. The children listen to a story read by our Foundation teachers and participate in an activity conducted in the Foundation classrooms. Through this, children are able to:

  • familiarise themselves with their prospective school environment
  • begin to make connections with their prospective teachers and other children with whom they may be working the following year

While students are participating in Story Time, parents are invited to share in an afternoon tea where they can meet and get to know other prospective parents. We run two Story Time sessions, one in July and one in October.

Orientation Program

Our formal orientation program commences in November. The program consists of three sessions conducted on separate days where students participate in a variety of activities with their future Foundation teachers in the Foundation classrooms. During these sessions, the children further familiarise themselves with their future school environment and continue to make connections with teachers and children with whom they will be working. It also supports children and parents to develop their understanding of everyday life at Boroondara Park P.S.
